On Wednesday, SHO Rao Ali in Multan slapped two motorcyclists who attempted to cross a closed road despite the flood threat restrictions. The individuals were reportedly trying to travel from Garewala Chowk to the opposite side, disregarding safety measures.
Due to rising waters from the Chenab River, police had sealed Mohammad Wala Road overnight. Multan’s Commissioner, Aamir Karim Khan, confirmed that traffic at Head Muhammad Wala had been suspended. He further warned that authorities might have to breach the Head for safety if the situation worsens.
The major flood wave from the Chenab River, currently passing through Head Trimmu, is expected to reach Multan by tonight. Meanwhile, water levels at Head Sidhnai are rapidly rising, threatening Pir Mahal and Khanewal.
At present, the water gauge at Head Muhammadwala is 408 feet, with the critical mark being 417 feet. Officials mentioned that a technical committee will decide whether to breach Head Muhammadwala, based on the flood wave’s intensity and speed.
Authorities have urged residents to follow the restrictions, emphasizing that the road closures are vital to ensure safety amid the escalating flood crisis.
