Karachi youth injured in police firing as family of 21 year old Shuraim Khalid demands justice after a shocking incident in Nazimabad No 3. The young man was travelling with his cousin Muhammad Tayyab to collect a motorcycle part when the situation turned violent.

According to the family, police personnel opened fire without any warning or signal to stop. Tayyab stated that the officers came from behind and fired three rounds. One bullet passed close to his feet while another struck Shuraim in the lower back. The family insists the police never signalled them to halt, saying they would have stopped immediately if given a chance.

Police personnel themselves took the injured youth to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. He was later shifted to Jinnah Hospital for better care. Shuraim is the sole breadwinner of his family and was also preparing for his upcoming marriage. His mother expressed deep pain and asked for accountability. She said if something worse had happened, no one could give a life in exchange. She wants the officers who took her son to the hospital to face her and answer for their actions.

In a video statement from the hospital, Shuraim appealed for help with his treatment. He mentioned that a private hospital was demanding at least Rs200,000 just for admission. He clearly said the mistake belonged to the police officer and requested cooperation so he could receive proper medical care.

Police authorities presented a different version of events. They claimed the incident happened during an encounter with suspects. According to the FIR registered at Nazimabad police station on the complaint of Constable Shehraz, patrolling officers signalled suspicious motorcyclists to stop. The suspects allegedly opened fire first, forcing the police to respond. Police maintain that Shuraim was hit by bullets from the suspects and not from their own personnel.

The Crime Scene Unit recovered nine 9mm and thirty .30 bore bullet casings from the location. Further investigation into the matter is still underway. The family continues to seek justice while the injured youth recovers from the bullet wound in his lower back. This case has once again highlighted concerns about police encounters and the need for transparent inquiry so that the truth comes out clearly for everyone involved.
