NewZealand Opens Business Visas For Pakistanis

New Zealand has introduced a new Business Investor Visa, opening doors for Pakistani investors and global entrepreneurs to establish and manage businesses in the country, with applications set to begin in November 2025. This visa replaces the now-closed Entrepreneur Work Visa, though existing holders can still pursue renewals or permanent residence under the old rules. The initiative aims to attract skilled investors to boost New Zealand’s economy through job creation and business growth.

The visa offers two investment pathways for applicants. By investing NZ$1 million (approximately Rs180 million), investors can secure a three-year work-to-residence pathway. Alternatively, a NZ$2 million investment (around Rs360 million) grants a fast-tracked residence within 12 months. Pakistani applicants can either purchase a business outright or acquire at least 25 percent ownership in an existing New Zealand enterprise, provided they meet the minimum investment thresholds. The visa is valid for up to four years, with a fee of NZ$12,380 (about Rs2.2 million), covering the application charge and levy. Successful applicants can include their spouse and dependent children. Eligibility Requirements for Pakistani Investors To qualify, Pakistani applicants must:

  • Be 55 years or younger.

  • Meet English language requirements (e.g., IELTS 5.0 or equivalent).

  • Show proof of at least NZ$500,000 (roughly Rs90 million) in available funds to support themselves and their families during the business setup phase.

  • Provide evidence of prior business experience.

  • Pass health and character checks.

  • Create local employment by hiring at least five full-time workers.

Certain businesses, such as drop-shipping, gambling ventures, tobacco or vaping production, adult entertainment, corner shops, immigration consultancy firms, discount outlets, fast food chains, franchises, and home-based businesses, are excluded from eligibility.

New Zealand officials state that the Business Investor Visa aligns with broader immigration reforms to strengthen the economy by attracting global talent and investment. It complements the Active Investor Plus Visa, with more details on both programs to be released in October 2025. This initiative offers Pakistani investors a promising opportunity to contribute to New Zealand’s business landscape while pursuing a structured pathway to residency.
