Pakistan and the European Union have pledged to deepen their partnership in the fight against terrorism. The two sides agreed to work more closely at multilateral platforms including the United Nations to build a stronger and more coordinated global response.

The commitment was made during the 10th round of the Pakistan-EU Bilateral Counterterrorism Dialogue held in Islamabad on Thursday. The Pakistani team was led by Director General Counterterrorism Dr Fareha Bugti. The EU side was headed by Anna Strzaska, Special Envoy for Counterterrorism of the European External Action Service.

Both delegations reviewed the latest regional and international developments that shape the terrorist threat. They strongly condemned terrorism in every form and restated their shared determination to defeat it. The European Union specifically condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan, expressed solidarity with the affected families and recognised the country’s ongoing efforts against militancy.

Officials from both sides also raised serious concerns about the security situation in Afghanistan and its possible impact on the wider anti-terrorism campaign. They acknowledged each other’s contributions to the global struggle against violent extremism.

The talks highlighted the growing importance of international cooperation. Both sides stressed that effective multilateral action remains essential for creating lasting consensus on counterterrorism. Discussions covered emerging dangers such as the misuse of cyberspace, information channels and energy resources by terrorist groups.

Pakistan and the EU exchanged practical experiences on preventing violent extremism, stopping terrorist financing and countering radicalisation. Special attention was given to the ways extremist networks exploit digital platforms. The two sides identified key areas for deeper collaboration and confirmed their intention to keep the dialogue regular and institutionalised.

They also agreed to hold the next round of talks in Brussels next year on a date convenient for both. The meeting ended on a note of mutual understanding and a clear desire to turn shared concerns into concrete joint action.

This latest round of dialogue shows that Pakistan and the European Union continue to view counterterrorism as a common priority. By combining diplomatic efforts at the United Nations and other international forums they hope to strengthen the global front against terrorism and protect civilian lives on both sides.
