A shocking street crime took place in Karachi when armed robbers pointed a pistol directly at a young child before snatching valuables from her mother. The incident happened in the Gulberg 15 area while the woman was taking her daughter to school on the morning of 15 October.

According to reports, two men on a motorcycle first overtook the mother and child. They then stopped them on the road and threatened the little girl with a pistol. The robbers quickly snatched a mobile phone and a ring from the woman before speeding away. CCTV cameras installed nearby recorded the entire sequence. The footage clearly shows the child crying in fear while the crime was taking place. The audio from the camera also captured her distressed cries, making the scene even more disturbing.

The case falls under the jurisdiction of the Joharabad police station. Local residents have complained that several similar crimes occur in the area during morning hours, yet police have so far failed to identify or arrest the suspects involved in this latest incident.

This robbery comes at a time when crime figures in Karachi remain high. Citizens-Police Liaison Committee data revealed that 4,838 crime incidents were reported across nine categories during September alone. In that single month, 1,859 mobile phones were snatched, 2,374 motorcycles were stolen, and another 430 motorcycles were taken by force. Authorities also recorded 97 four-wheelers stolen and 20 snatched, along with 52 homicides and six extortion cases. No kidnapping for ransom or bank robbery was reported in September.

Looking at the bigger picture, CPLC figures show a total of 44,402 crime incidents from January to September 2026. Motorcycle theft remains the biggest problem, with 23,927 two-wheelers stolen and 4,021 snatched during the nine-month period. Mobile phone snatching reached 14,705 cases, while 1,070 cars were stolen and 155 were snatched. The same period also saw 408 homicides, 112 extortion cases, three kidnappings for ransom, and one bank robbery.

The video of this latest incident has once again highlighted the growing sense of insecurity among parents who send their children to school every morning in different parts of the city.
