Security forces successfully neutralised seven Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to security sources. The operation took place on Friday under the broader Azm-e-Istehkam vision aimed at eliminating militant threats across the region.

The forces targeted India-backed militants and also destroyed several of their hideouts during the raid. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the terrorists, security sources confirmed. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their effective action in eliminating the seven militants.

This latest success comes just one day after another intelligence-based operation in the same district in which nine Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists were killed. Those earlier operations were conducted in the Palangzai, Nadeem Kot and Kot Khazri areas of North Waziristan.

Pakistan has faced a sharp rise in cross-border terrorist incidents, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021. September 2026 recorded the highest monthly number of militant attacks in twelve years. Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies showed 225 militant attacks across the country that month, up from 199 in August.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Afghan authorities in Kabul to stop militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan. Pakistani officials maintain that the Afghan Taliban have not taken effective steps against the organisations responsible for strikes on security forces and civilians.

Despite several rounds of talks, differences between Islamabad and Kabul remain unresolved. The presence of militant groups operating from Afghan soil continues to be a major point of tension between the two sides. The security forces remain committed to protecting the country’s borders and eliminating all forms of terrorism through sustained operations.
