Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with India after the BSF killed two unarmed Pakistani civilians in the Bedian Sector along the international border. On Saturday the Foreign Office summoned India’s Charge d’Affaires and expressed deep anger over the incident that took place a day earlier.
According to security sources, Azmat Rasool Shah and Mohsin Jutt, both residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar, were shot dead while another civilian was injured. The three men had taken only a few steps beyond a border pillar and never tried to cross the fence. They were completely unarmed and received no warning before the BSF opened fire.
The Foreign Office called the use of lethal force “wholly unjustified and grossly disproportionate.” Pakistan firmly rejected any attempt by India to label the dead men as infiltrators. Officials stressed that the killings amount to a serious violation of the fundamental right to life and raise clear concerns under international human rights law.
Islamabad has demanded an immediate, transparent and credible investigation. It also wants disciplinary and legal action against those responsible and a formal report of the findings to be shared with the Pakistani government. The Foreign Office further urged India to respect bilateral border arrangements, observe maximum restraint and take concrete steps to stop such incidents from happening again.
The deadly firing occurred just one day after the Pakistani military exposed what it described as an Indian false-flag operation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. At a press conference, the ISPR Director-General presented a retired Pakistani soldier whom Indian authorities had earlier claimed to have killed in a staged encounter.
Pakistan maintains that the latest border tragedy once again shows the need for strict adherence to established procedures and the protection of civilian lives. The government has made it clear that it will continue to raise the matter until accountability is ensured and the safety of its citizens along the border is fully protected.
