Punjab schools will not face any smart lockdown as academic activities continue without interruption across the province. Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has clearly dismissed circulating rumours and assured parents that there is no plan to introduce such restrictions in educational institutions.
Speaking in Lahore, the minister stated that schools remain open five days a week from Monday to Friday. He personally believes educational institutions should stay functional on this schedule. “If markets and bazaars are open, schools should not be closed,” he said. Around 90 percent of schoolchildren attend institutions close to their homes, making daily travel convenient and safe.
The minister urged parents and the public not to believe misinformation or disinformation spreading on social media and other platforms. He emphasized that no proposal for a smart lockdown currently exists at the provincial level. Should the federal government suggest any similar measure in the future, he promised to strongly advocate for the uninterrupted continuation of education under all circumstances.
Recent federal notifications on austerity and fuel conservation measures, introduced due to rising fuel prices linked to the Middle East conflict, require shops, markets, and shopping malls in Islamabad to close at 9 pm throughout the week. These steps aim to conserve energy. However, the measures apply only to the federal capital at this stage. Provincial and regional governments have been encouraged to consider similar steps if needed, yet Punjab has not adopted any such restrictions for schools.
Students and teachers continue their regular routines. The minister’s clear statement brings relief to families who were concerned after seeing unverified claims online. Education remains a top priority, and authorities want to ensure children do not miss out on learning opportunities.
Parents are advised to rely on official announcements rather than rumours. Schools in Punjab are operating normally, and there is no indication of any change in the near future. The focus stays on keeping classrooms open and supporting the academic progress of students across the province.
