Pakistan’s military leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the country’s rightful water share, emphasizing that every necessary step will be taken to safeguard Pakistan’s national interests. The pledge was made during the 276th Corps Commanders Conference held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi under the chairmanship of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the forum reviewed the country’s overall security environment, regional developments, and operational preparedness. Senior military commanders expressed confidence in the professionalism and combat readiness of the Pakistan Armed Forces, while reaffirming their commitment to protecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The conference also discussed concerns regarding the Indus Waters Treaty after India suspended the agreement following the April 2025 attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The military leadership reiterated its support for the decisions taken by the National Security Committee (NSC) and vowed to ensure Pakistan receives its rightful share of water in accordance with government directives and international commitments.
The commanders also reviewed the ongoing fight against terrorism. The forum expressed concern over the alleged use of Afghan territory by India backed terrorist groups to launch attacks inside Pakistan. Military officials stressed that lasting regional peace depends on preventing terrorist organisations from using Afghan soil for cross border activities.
The conference reaffirmed that the Pakistan Armed Forces will continue Intelligence Based Operations against terrorist networks while also supporting stronger governance, improved public services, and development initiatives in affected regions. Military leaders noted that eliminating terrorism requires both security operations and effective civil administration.
The forum also condemned alleged human rights violations in IIOJK and reiterated Pakistan’s diplomatic, political, and moral support for the Kashmiri people. In his closing remarks, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir directed commanders to maintain the highest level of operational readiness, strengthen multi domain capabilities, and remain prepared to respond effectively to conventional, sub conventional, and hybrid security challenges facing Pakistan.
