Babar Azam has outlined the three key principles that will shape his leadership after being reappointed as Pakistan Test captain. The star batter said he will not compromise on discipline, fitness, and performance, describing them as the foundation for building a stronger and more competitive Test team.
Speaking during an interview, Babar expressed his excitement about leading Pakistan once again in the longest format of the game. He said captaining the national side is always a privilege and revealed that his previous experience has helped him grow as both a player and a leader. According to Babar, maturity, better planning, and a positive mindset have prepared him to handle the responsibilities of captaincy more effectively this time.
The 31 year old reflected on his earlier stint as captain, admitting that every leader makes decisions they later review. He explained that learning from both successes and mistakes has allowed him to rebuild his mindset and approach challenges with greater confidence. He believes these lessons will benefit both him and the team during the upcoming Test assignments.
Babar also highlighted the importance of supporting young players, many of whom have earned their place through impressive domestic performances. He stressed that international cricket brings intense pressure, making it essential for senior players to guide youngsters and help them stay relaxed. As captain, he sees his role as creating an environment where players can perform freely and continue developing their skills.
Discussing the recent National Cricket Academy Red Ball Camp, Babar said the training focused on improving fitness, fielding, and mental toughness. He added that the coaching staff also worked with players on handling pressure situations and adapting to different match scenarios.
Looking ahead to the challenging West Indies and England tours, Babar said Pakistan have prepared according to the expected conditions. He also explained that his personal batting approach always depends on the team’s needs rather than individual milestones.
Finally, Babar urged cricket fans to continue supporting the national side, promising that the team will work hard to meet expectations while continuing to learn and improve with every match.
