The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) have officially formed an election alliance in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) ahead of the upcoming AJK Legislative Assembly elections. Both parties have agreed to support joint candidates in selected constituencies to strengthen their position in the polls.
The agreement was announced during a joint press conference in Islamabad by PPP AJK President Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin and JUI-F AJK leader Maulana Saeed Yousaf. Several senior political figures, including ministers and party representatives, were also present at the announcement.
Under the alliance agreement, JUI-F candidates will contest as joint nominees in two important constituencies, including LA-23 Sudhnoti/Pallandri and LA-14 Western Bagh/Dhirkot. As part of the deal, PPP candidates Nabeela Ayub and Zobia Khurshid will withdraw their nomination papers to support the alliance.
The agreement also states that JUI-F will support PPP candidates in the remaining constituencies where the parties have decided to cooperate. Leaders from both political groups described the move as a step toward greater political coordination in AJK.
Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin called the alliance a major development in AJK politics and appreciated the efforts of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in bringing both parties together.
Maulana Saeed Yousaf said this was the first formal electoral partnership between PPP and JUI-F in AJK and instructed party candidates in other constituencies to withdraw their nominations according to the agreement.
Meanwhile, the PPP has also announced its first list of 35 election candidates for the upcoming AJK polls. The list includes candidates from areas such as Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Bagh, Poonch, Neelum, and Muzaffarabad.
Political observers believe that the PPP JUI-F alliance could increase competition in the elections and influence the political landscape of AJK. Both parties have expressed confidence that their cooperation will improve their chances of gaining support and forming the next government.
