A tragic incident unfolded in Lakki Marwat on Friday when residents successfully prevented a suicide bombing attempt targeting a mosque during Friday prayers. However, the explosion claimed the life of a young child and left several others injured.
According to local sources, the attacker, identified by authorities as a member of Fitna al Khawarij, attempted to enter a mosque located in the Khairo Khel Pakka area of Lakki Marwat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Worshippers and local residents noticed suspicious activity and intervened before the suspect could reach the crowded prayer area.
As locals confronted the attacker, the explosives attached to his motorcycle detonated outside the mosque premises. The blast resulted in the martyrdom of a five year old girl, while five other people, including children, sustained injuries.
The injured victims were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where they received medical treatment. The condition of some of the injured was being monitored by healthcare authorities.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive search operation to gather evidence and determine whether any accomplices were involved. Investigators are also assessing the overall security situation to eliminate any additional threats.
