Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted a special breakfast meeting in Islamabad with Prince Rahim Aga Khan V during his first official visit to Pakistan. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network, especially in the northern regions of Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral.
During the meeting, the prime minister warmly welcomed Prince Rahim and praised the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and AKDN. He appreciated the organization’s valuable contributions in areas such as healthcare, education, rural development, renewable energy, climate resilience, and youth entrepreneurship. He noted that AKDN has played a key role in improving the lives of people living in remote and vulnerable communities across northern Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the important role of Aga Khan University in advancing higher education and medical services in the country. He encouraged further collaboration with the university to support Pakistan’s growing healthcare and education sectors.
The premier recognised Prince Rahim’s commitment to environmental protection and said AKDN remains a trusted partner in Pakistan’s efforts to tackle climate challenges. He stressed the importance of cooperation in glacially vulnerable areas where communities face increasing environmental risks.
Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed condolences over the passing of Prince Karim Aga Khan IV and paid tribute to his humanitarian work and decades long relationship with Pakistan. To honour his services, the prime minister presented a commemorative postal stamp issued by Pakistan Post.
Prince Rahim thanked the government and people of Pakistan for the warm welcome and expressed his commitment to continuing cooperation in human development initiatives across the country.
