Prince Rahim Aga Khan V has reaffirmed the Aga Khan Development Network’s commitment to supporting humanitarian and development projects in Pakistan during his official meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad. The visit marks Prince Rahim’s first official trip to Pakistan since becoming the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community last year.
President Zardari personally welcomed Prince Rahim at Nur Khan Airbase, accompanied by First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari. Children dressed in traditional cultural outfits presented flowers to the visiting dignitary, highlighting the warm reception given by Pakistani officials and citizens.
A formal guard of honour by the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, and Pakistan Air Force was presented at Aiwan e Sadr before high level talks began. President Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and senior officials discussed cooperation in healthcare, education, climate resilience, heritage conservation, and community welfare initiatives.
The president praised the Aga Khan Development Network for its decades long contributions to Pakistan, especially in remote and underdeveloped regions. He also appreciated the late Prince Karim Aga Khan IV for his historic relationship with Pakistan and acknowledged the family’s lasting role in national development.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, federal ministers, diplomats, and parliamentary leaders attended a special banquet hosted in honour of Prince Rahim.
During the meeting, Prince Rahim thanked Pakistan for its hospitality and reiterated AKDN’s dedication to continuing development and humanitarian work across the country. He is also expected to visit several areas in Gilgit Baltistan, including Hunza and Gilgit City, where large public gatherings and community events are planned.
The visit reflects the strong and historic partnership between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network, which continues to play an important role in social progress and regional development.
