A brave citizen lost his life while preventing a possible suicide bombing attack near Kohat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to security sources. His courageous action reportedly saved both civilians and security personnel from a major tragedy in the sensitive inter provincial region.
The incident took place near the area connecting Punjab’s Jand tehsil with KP’s Khushal Garh Bridge. Officials said the suspected militant, identified as a member of Fitna al Khawarij, was moving through nearby fields with the intention of reaching a sensitive security checkpoint.
Security sources revealed that Liaqat, a retired employee of Pakistan Railways and resident of Mankor village in Attock district, became suspicious after noticing the man’s movements. He stopped the suspect and asked for identification. During the confrontation, the attacker detonated explosives, killing both himself and Liaqat on the spot.
Authorities believe the bomber was planning to target the nearby checkpoint and civilians present in the surrounding area. However, Liaqat’s timely bravery prevented a much larger disaster and protected countless innocent lives.
Officials praised the retired railway employee for his sacrifice, saying his actions reflected the courage shown by ordinary Pakistanis against terrorism. Security sources added that threats from militant groups continue to challenge peace in border regions, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terrorist attacks since the return of the Afghan Taliban government in Afghanistan in 2021. Islamabad has repeatedly asked Kabul to stop militant organisations from using Afghan soil to launch attacks inside Pakistan. Despite several rounds of talks and diplomatic efforts, tensions remain due to ongoing security concerns.
The martyrdom of Liaqat has once again highlighted the sacrifices made by civilians in the fight against terrorism and the continued importance of national security efforts across the country.
