Shaheen Shah Afridi achieved a historic milestone on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, becoming the first Pakistani bowler to take 100 wickets in the ICC World Test Championship.

The left-arm fast bowler reached the landmark by dismissing Bangladesh opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy early in the innings. At just 26 years of age, Shaheen has once again underlined his importance to Pakistan’s bowling attack and strengthened his place among the elite performers in Test cricket.

With this achievement, Shaheen became the 19th bowler overall to claim 100 wickets in World Test Championship history. His consistency across multiple WTC cycles has made him Pakistan’s most successful bowler in the competition.

The list of Pakistan’s leading wicket-takers in the World Test Championship highlights Shaheen’s dominance. Noman Ali follows with 89 wickets, while Sajid Khan has taken 63. Naseem Shah has 60 wickets and Abrar Ahmed has 46.

Despite Shaheen’s historic moment, Bangladesh dominated the first day. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a superb 101, while Mominul Haque contributed 91. Their excellent partnership put the hosts in a commanding position.

At stumps, Bangladesh were 301 for 4 in 85 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 48, and Litton Das was not out on 8.

Shaheen Afridi’s record is a proud moment for Pakistan cricket and further confirms his status as one of the finest fast bowlers in the modern game.
