Pakistan’s security forces successfully neutralised five terrorists during separate intelligence based operations conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on May 7 and 8, according to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). The operations were carried out in the districts of Tank and Dera Ismail Khan following reports regarding the presence of militants in the area.

According to the military’s media wing, the first operation was launched in the Tank district, where security personnel targeted a terrorist hideout after receiving intelligence information. During the intense exchange of fire, troops effectively engaged the militants and killed four terrorists linked to the India sponsored group known as Fitna al Khwarij.

A second intelligence based operation was conducted in Dera Ismail Khan, where another terrorist was killed after a gun battle with security forces. Officials confirmed that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the militants, who were reportedly involved in several terrorist activities across the region.

The ISPR stated that sanitisation operations were immediately launched to clear the surrounding areas and ensure that no additional militants remained hidden nearby. Pakistan’s armed forces reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the nationwide counter terrorism campaign under the vision of Azm e Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.

Pakistan has witnessed a noticeable rise in terrorist incidents, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Islamabad has repeatedly called on Kabul to prevent terrorist organisations from using Afghan soil to launch attacks inside Pakistan.

Despite multiple rounds of discussions between both countries, tensions continue as Pakistan claims militant groups are still operating from across the border. Security officials have vowed to continue operations against foreign sponsored terrorism to maintain peace and stability in the country.
