A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS reveals that a clear majority of Americans disapprove of the recent US military action in Iran, highlighting deep public concern about the possibility of a prolonged conflict. According to the survey, nearly six in ten Americans, or 59 percent, oppose the decision to launch strikes, while only 41 percent approve. Strong disapproval stands at 31 percent, almost double the 16 percent who strongly support the move.

Public skepticism also extends to President Donald Trump’s handling of the situation. About 60 percent of respondents believe he does not have a clear strategy regarding Iran, and 62 percent say he should seek congressional approval before pursuing any further military action. Only 27 percent feel the United States made sufficient diplomatic efforts before resorting to force, while 39 percent argue that diplomacy was not pursued strongly enough.

Concerns about escalation remain high. A majority of Americans, 56 percent, believe a long term military conflict between the US and Iran is at least somewhat likely, with 24 percent describing it as very likely. While 44 percent support attempts to overthrow the Iranian government, most oppose such measures. Support for deploying US ground troops is particularly low, with only 12 percent in favor and 60 percent against.

Political divisions are sharp. Among Republicans, 77 percent approve of the military action, compared to just 32 percent of independents and 18 percent of Democrats. The poll also highlights a divide within the Republican Party itself, especially between MAGA and non MAGA voters, largely tied to trust in Trump’s approach to using force.

A separate Reuters Ipsos poll reflects similar sentiment, with 43 percent disapproving of the strikes and 56 percent believing Trump is too willing to use military force. The survey included 1,282 US adults and carries a margin of error of three percentage points.
