China has announced a full assessment of the recent US Supreme Court ruling that struck down several tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump, while urging Washington to remove what it described as unilateral tariff measures. Beijing warned that continued trade confrontation between the two largest economies is harmful for global stability and economic growth.

The ruling by the highest US court dealt a significant setback to Trump’s trade strategy, invalidating multiple tariffs imposed during his global trade push, including measures targeting China, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. Shortly after the decision, Trump stated he would introduce a new 10 percent tariff on imports from all countries, later raising it to 15 percent under a legal provision known as Section 122. This rarely used law allows temporary tariffs but requires congressional approval after 150 days.

China’s Commerce Ministry criticized the US actions, stating that such tariffs violate international trade rules and domestic US law. Officials emphasized that cooperation between China and the United States is beneficial, while conflict damages both sides. Beijing also confirmed it would closely monitor developments and safeguard its national interests.

The issue is expected to dominate discussions ahead of Trump’s planned visit to China in late March and early April, where he is scheduled to meet President Xi Jinping. Trade uncertainty has also impacted other economies. South Korea expressed concern over industries including automobiles, batteries, and semiconductors. India reportedly delayed sending a trade delegation to Washington due to the unpredictability of US tariff policy.

Meanwhile, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde warned that businesses require stability and clear trade rules rather than legal disputes. Analysts believe the renewed tariff debate could create fresh uncertainty in global markets, particularly within technology supply chains.

As tensions continue, the world watches closely to see whether dialogue or escalation will shape the next phase of US China tariffs relations.
