The Sutlej River has maintained medium-level flooding at Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanki headworks, continuing to inundate parts of Lodhran, Multan, and Bahawalpur districts. Authorities remain on alert as water levels rise, threatening more areas.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), flows were recorded at 95,000 cusecs at Ganda Singh Wala and 82,000 cusecs at Sulemanki, with further surges expected near Jalalpur Pirwala. Meanwhile, flood levels in the Chenab and Ravi rivers were reported as normal.
Floodwaters have breached embankments at Noraja Bhutta, damaging sections of the Multan–Sukkur Motorway (M5) across multiple locations. The motorway has remained closed for nine consecutive days, with diversions in place at Shah Shams and Uch Sharif interchanges.
The National Highways Authority (NHA) confirmed that four of six lanes were damaged but denied a complete washout. Repair work is underway, with heavy machinery deployed to restore connectivity.
Rescue operations continue as authorities work to support displaced families. The NDMA reported that over 3 million people have been evacuated since late June through nearly 5,800 operations carried out by provincial governments, the army, and relief agencies. At least 1,006 people have lost their lives, and thousands remain injured.
Floods have destroyed or damaged 12,500+ homes, killed 6,500 livestock, and devastated infrastructure, including 239 bridges and nearly 2,000 km of roads. Relief camps and medical facilities are active, treating hundreds of thousands of patients and providing shelter, food, and essential supplies.
Officials stressed that efforts are ongoing to reinforce embankments, repair damaged roads, and provide aid, but the M5 motorway will remain shut until safety is ensured.
