A viral video showing doctors allegedly engaging in a race during surgeries at Lady Willingdon Hospital in Lahore has sparked widespread outrage and prompted swift action from the Punjab government. The footage, which circulated rapidly on social media, appears to show two Caesarean sections being performed simultaneously, with medical staff making victory signs and behaving inappropriately inside the operation theatre.

The video has raised serious concerns about medical ethics and patient safety. Voices heard in the clip suggest that the doctors were competing to finish their procedures first, a claim that has intensified public criticism. The incident has been labeled a breach of professional standards and an insult to patient dignity.

In response, the Department of Specialised Healthcare has demanded explanations from Lady Willingdon Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Farah Inam and Head of Gynaecology Professor Dr Uzma Hussain, with a deadline of three days to submit their replies. Additionally, the postgraduate training of four doctors — Dr Tayyaba Fatima Toor, Dr Maham Amin, Dr Zainab Tahir, and Dr Ayesha Afzal — has been suspended.

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique condemned the incident, stating that such behavior violates both government rules and the hospital’s standard operating procedures. He emphasized that the actions seen in the video represent a serious lapse in professional conduct.

Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood added that disciplinary proceedings would be initiated if the responses from hospital officials are deemed unsatisfactory. The competent authority has termed the incident a clear example of negligence in the discharge of official duties.

This episode has reignited debate over the need for stricter oversight in medical institutions and reinforced the importance of maintaining ethical standards in healthcare settings.
