In a significant step toward promoting interfaith harmony and inclusivity, the Sindh government has announced that education boards will not conduct examinations during Holi and Easter festivals. This decision aims to provide relief to minority students and teachers, ensuring they can observe their religious festivals without academic pressure.
Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards, Ismail Rahu, issued clear instructions to all education boards across Sindh to avoid scheduling exams between April 2 and April 6, which coincides with the Easter festival period. He confirmed that all postponed or rescheduled examinations will resume from April 7, allowing affected students to prepare and participate without conflict.
The decision was taken on the directive of Murad Ali Shah, the Chief Minister of Sindh, after receiving a formal request from the principal of St Patrick High School Karachi. The request highlighted the importance of respecting religious observances of minority communities, particularly Christian students and teachers celebrating Easter.
Following the chief minister’s directive, all education boards that had already issued examination timetables have been ordered to revise them immediately. Updated schedules must be released without delay to avoid confusion among students, parents, and educational institutions. Additionally, the chairpersons of all education boards have been instructed to ensure full compliance and submit official reports confirming the implementation of the new examination schedule.
Officials emphasized that this move reflects the government’s commitment to religious tolerance, equal opportunity, and respect for diversity. By adjusting the exam schedule, authorities aim to create a fair and supportive educational environment for students of all faiths.
