Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to visit Saudi Arabia within the next 48 hours after receiving an invitation from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This important visit highlights the strong and long-standing relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, especially during a time of rising regional tensions.

During his stay in Riyadh, the prime minister is likely to hold high-level discussions on regional security, international developments, and ongoing diplomatic efforts. The visit comes shortly after the recent US-Iran talks in Islamabad, which marked the first direct engagement between the two countries in more than a decade. Despite intense discussions lasting over 21 hours, no formal agreement was reached, leaving the situation uncertain.

The regional environment remains tense following weeks of conflict in the Gulf, which has caused significant loss of life and disrupted global energy supplies. Although a temporary ceasefire is in place, concerns are growing after the United States announced plans for a maritime blockade around Iranian ports, raising fears of further escalation.

Apart from security concerns, economic cooperation will also be a key topic during the visit. Recently, Saudi Arabia and Qatar pledged $5 billion in financial support for Pakistan, which is expected to strengthen economic ties and provide much-needed relief to the country’s economy.

The prime minister will be accompanied by senior officials, including Asim Munir, Ishaq Dar, and Tariq Fatemi, while Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb may join after completing his visit to the United States. Pakistan has also increased its military support to Saudi Arabia under a defense agreement signed in September 2025, reinforcing their strategic partnership.

This visit reflects Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining regional stability, strengthening alliances, and playing an active role in global diplomacy during critical times.
