The Punjab government has officially banned the use of loudspeakers in all mosques across the province, except for the Azaan (call to prayer). This new policy aims to reduce noise pollution and promote peaceful coexistence in residential and urban areas.
According to the directive, loudspeakers cannot be used for sermons, public announcements, or other gatherings inside mosques. Authorities believe this step will help create a calmer environment while respecting religious traditions.
Officials have urged all religious institutions to strictly comply with the new rules. They emphasized that following these measures is essential to ensure public harmony and legal compliance. The government clarified that the move is not against religion but rather an effort to balance spiritual practices with the right of citizens to a peaceful environment.
The decision addresses the long-standing issue of uncontrolled noise levels in busy neighborhoods, particularly during peak hours. By limiting the use of loudspeakers to the Azaan only, the government hopes to preserve religious customs while making cities more livable.
Additionally, community leaders are encouraged to explore alternative communication methods for delivering sermons and announcements. The government plans to monitor and enforce the policy to ensure its success.
This initiative sets an example for other provinces, demonstrating how religious respect and modern urban needs can coexist through thoughtful regulation.
