The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has officially announced a major political rally scheduled to take place at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi on April 9. The party leadership has made it clear that they are determined to proceed with the gathering and may pursue legal action if authorities deny permission.

The chosen date holds strong political significance, as it marks the anniversary of the removal of Imran Khan through a no confidence motion in 2022. Since then, Khan has remained a central figure in Pakistan’s political landscape, despite facing legal challenges and being in custody since 2023.

During a press conference in Islamabad, party leaders emphasized their commitment to peaceful protest. Junaid Akbar stated that holding the rally is a constitutional right and warned that demonstrations could take place elsewhere if restrictions are imposed.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also addressed the media, strongly defending PTI supporters. He stressed that party workers are a political force, not an armed group, and accused the current government of attempting to suppress opposition voices. He urged authorities to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC), assuring that the party would manage the event responsibly.

Afridi also raised concerns about the country’s economic situation, claiming that nearly 45 percent of the population is living below the poverty line. His remarks added a broader socio economic angle to the political message being delivered by the party.

Following a separate meeting of opposition leaders, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan reiterated that PTI is prepared to approach the courts if permission for the rally is denied. He emphasized that the purpose of the gathering is to demonstrate the party’s commitment to peace, democracy, and public engagement.

As political tensions continue to rise, the upcoming rally is expected to play a significant role in shaping the current political climate in Pakistan.
