The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has strongly denied a fake notification circulating on social media that falsely claims a reduction in mobile phone taxes, along with new instructions for importers and consumers. The authority clarified that the misleading information has no official backing and urged the public to stay alert against such false claims.

According to the PTA, the fake notification began spreading rapidly across various social media platforms, confusing mobile phone users and businesses involved in phone imports. Addressing the matter, a PTA spokesperson issued a clear statement on X, stressing that the information being shared is entirely false and misleading.

The spokesperson emphasized that the authority has not issued any notification related to a reduction in mobile taxes, nor has it introduced new policies affecting mobile phone imports or consumer obligations. Officials warned that spreading unverified information can create unnecessary panic and may lead to financial misunderstandings among the public.

The PTA reiterated that it remains the sole regulatory body authorized to announce changes related to telecom regulations, mobile taxation, and device registration policies in Pakistan. Any official decision or policy update is always communicated through verified channels to ensure transparency and accuracy.

In its advisory, the authority urged citizens to rely only on the PTA official website and its verified social media accounts for credible updates. Users were also encouraged to avoid forwarding unconfirmed messages, screenshots, or so-called notifications that do not originate from trusted sources.

The regulator highlighted that fake notifications have become increasingly common, especially during periods of policy discussion or economic uncertainty. Such misinformation not only misleads consumers but can also harm businesses operating within the legal framework set by the government.

PTA further reminded the public that all announcements regarding mobile phone taxes, DIRBS regulations, or import policies are publicly notified through official press releases. Any message lacking formal documentation or reference should be treated with caution.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to keeping telecom users informed through accurate and timely communication, while also taking steps to counter misinformation that spreads through digital platforms.
