LOS ANGELES: Prince Harry became visibly emotional while meeting grieving British families who say their children lost their lives due to the harmful effects of social media, as a new legal push against major tech companies gains attention.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, known for advocating safer online spaces for children, are back in the spotlight as related legal action against tech giants moves forward.
During the gathering in Los Angeles, Harry met families campaigning for greater digital safety and platform accountability. In a clip shared by BBC Breakfast, the Duke of Sussex appeared tearful as he praised the courage of bereaved parents for continuing their fight for safer online environments.
According to the Daily Mail, Meghan Markle accompanied Harry at the meeting. He thanked the families for repeatedly sharing their stories in pursuit of truth, justice, and accountability.
Addressing attendees, Prince Harry described the struggle as a “David versus Goliath” battle, saying he personally understands what it feels like to face powerful institutions in legal fights.
Referring to his own court battles, he noted how confronting the opposing side in court can be emotionally overwhelming and encouraged parents not to suppress their feelings.
“Do not feel ashamed or worried about showing emotion,” Harry told them, even referencing accounts that a judge had advised some participants to remain composed during proceedings.
He concluded by expressing gratitude to the parents for speaking out and contributing to efforts aimed at building a healthier and safer digital world for children.
