The PCB PSL update has brought major changes ahead of the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League, as the Pakistan Cricket Board officially announced the category renewals of 89 local players. The update introduces promotions, retention rules, and the league’s first-ever player auction, marking a significant shift in how franchises will shape their squads.
According to the PCB announcement, five players have been promoted to the Platinum category, the highest tier in PSL. These include Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha, along with Sahibzada Farhan, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, and Abrar Ahmed. This promotion reflects their strong performances and growing value in domestic and international cricket.
Under the new PCB PSL update, each franchise will be allowed to retain a maximum of four players, with only one player per category. After the retention process, teams will participate in the PSL 11 Player Auction, scheduled for February 11, to complete their final squads. This is the first time an auction format will be used in PSL history, adding excitement and unpredictability to team selections.
Several star players managed to retain their Platinum status, including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, and Naseem Shah, underlining their consistent impact in previous PSL seasons.
The Diamond category features 11 players across franchises, while several cricketers such as Mohammad Salman Mirza, Sufyan Moqim, and Mohammad Wasim Jnr earned promotions from Gold to Diamond. Meanwhile, the Gold category includes 32 players, spread across all six teams, reflecting a deep pool of competitive talent.
The Silver and Emerging categories also saw movement, with players like Hunain Shah, Ubaid Shah, and Mohammad Naeem climbing the ranks. These upgrades highlight PCB’s focus on player development and performance-based progression.
Overall, this PCB PSL update sets the stage for a highly competitive PSL 11, giving franchises limited retention power while opening the door for strategic auction moves. Fans can expect intense bidding, reshaped teams, and fresh rivalries as the league prepares for another blockbuster season.
