PCB Considers Action After T20 World Cup Exit

Pakistan cricket team players in green kit huddle during match related to PCB fines decision

The Pakistan Cricket Board is reportedly reviewing disciplinary measures following the national team’s disappointing campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Sources indicate that the board is seriously considering financial penalties for certain players after Pakistan failed to secure a place in the semi finals for the second consecutive tournament.

Pakistan, champions in 2009, were eliminated in the Super Eights stage after failing to achieve a required margin of victory against Sri Lanka. Although they managed a five wicket win in that match, it was their only victory against a full member nation during the competition. The team suffered defeats to arch rivals India in the group stage and to England in the Super Eights. Their fixture against New Zealand was abandoned due to persistent rain in Colombo, further denting their chances of qualification.

This early exit has extended Pakistan’s recent struggles in major tournaments, especially after their impressive runner up finish in the 2022 edition. The board now appears determined to hold players accountable for what has been described as poor performances on the global stage.

According to insiders, the PCB is examining the possibility of imposing fines of up to Rs5 million on selected players. However, officials are carefully reviewing the legal framework and contractual obligations before making a final decision. The proposed penalties may not apply equally to all squad members. Players whose performances were labeled as extremely disappointing could face stricter sanctions, while those who showed consistent effort and delivered satisfactory results may avoid fines.

Despite the setback, the national side must quickly shift focus. The Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a three match ODI series in Dhaka from March 11 to 15. The upcoming series presents an opportunity for redemption and a chance to rebuild confidence after the T20 World Cup disappointment.
