The case of a Pakistani woman recovered in Iran has taken a surprising turn after she refused to return to Pakistan alone, despite earlier appeals for help against her alleged abusive husband. The woman, four months pregnant and mother to a young child, has now stated that she wishes to remain with her husband and will only travel back if he accompanies her.
In a handwritten note and video message, she thanked Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, along with officials at the Pakistan Consulate in Mashhad, for their support. However, she explained that her physical condition and responsibility of caring for a toddler make it difficult for her to travel alone.
According to an Iranian diplomat, the woman has been moved to a police camp in Bandar Abbas, where Pakistani embassy officials have been granted full access. Iranian authorities are reportedly waiting for Pakistan to complete arrangements for her return, but no final decision has been made. The diplomat added that there is no official complaint against the husband, which limits any legal action.
Earlier, the woman had released a video claiming she was brought to Iran illegally, married under pressure, and subjected to abuse. Her family in Hyderabad says they are financially unable to travel to Iran and are urging the embassy to intervene further.
Officials say the situation now appears to be a family dispute, complicated by the fact that the woman entered Iran without valid travel documents. Until legal procedures are resolved, she may remain under Iranian supervision.
