The Pakistani American lawyer at TikTok story highlights a major professional milestone as Zunaira Tariq has been appointed Operations Leader Mobility at TikTok Headquarters in the United States. Her appointment marks a significant achievement for the Pakistani diaspora in the global technology and legal landscape.
In her new role, Zunaira Tariq will oversee talent mobility and immigration strategy across TikTok’s key international markets. She has already played a central role in supporting the company’s rapid expansion in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil, managing complex employee relocation projects that are critical to TikTok’s global growth strategy.
Zunaira brings with her a diverse and distinguished professional background, spanning international Law, public policy in Pakistan, and leadership positions within major technology firms. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of London before earning a Master of Laws from the University of Washington School of Law in the United States.
Before joining TikTok, she worked at Microsoft’s headquarters in Seattle as a Mobility and Immigration Consultant, where she managed global talent mobility initiatives for the tech giant. Her experience at Microsoft further strengthened her expertise in navigating complex immigration frameworks and international employment regulations.
In Pakistan, Zunaira has also contributed significantly to public sector initiatives. She served as legal counsel for the Benazir Income Support Programme within the interior ministry, working on policy-driven legal matters aimed at social welfare and governance.
Notably, she made history by becoming the first woman Adviser to the Director General of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). In that role, she successfully handled a major international expansion project to the United Arab Emirates, breaking new ground for women in traditionally male-dominated institutions.
Speaking about her journey, Zunaira credited her achievements to hard work and mentorship, emphasizing the importance of guidance in shaping professional growth.
