Pakistan opened the T20I Tri Series with an intense and unexpected victory, defeating Zimbabwe by five wickets in a dramatic match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Chasing a target of 148, Pakistan stumbled early but recovered impressively, sealing the game with four balls to spare.
Zimbabwe, put in to bat, started strongly as Brian Bennett smashed 49 off 38, partnering with Tadiwanashe Marumani for a fiery 72 run stand. Their aggressive hitting challenged Pakistan’s pace attack, especially early on. However, a sudden middle order collapse shifted the momentum. Abrar Ahmed delivered a brilliant spell, taking 3 for 28, which pushed Zimbabwe back to 147 for 8. Captain Sikandar Raza’s unbeaten 34 off 24 added valuable runs but fell short of a commanding total.
Pakistan’s chase began poorly as Babar Azam departed for a duck, leaving the team struggling at 20 for 3. The pressure eased when Fakhar Zaman played a crucial knock of 44 off 32, keeping the scoreboard moving. The real turnaround came from Usman Khan, who anchored the innings with an unbeaten 37 off 28.
All rounder Mohammad Nawaz shined with a match winning 21 not out off 12 along with key wickets, earning the player of the match award. His partnership with Usman added 51 runs in the final overs, securing a confidence boosting win. As the series continues, Pakistan gains momentum while Zimbabwe reflects on missed chances.
