Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a crucial telephonic conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, urging an immediate end to hostilities and a return to normalcy amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz strongly condemned the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Kingdom. He praised Saudi leadership for showing remarkable restraint during the crisis and emphasized that Pakistan would always stand by its long-standing ally.
The premier stressed the importance of regional stability, calling for unity and harmony within the Ummah. He briefed the Crown Prince on Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic outreach, aimed at encouraging dialogue and de-escalation among all involved parties.
In response, Mohammed bin Salman appreciated Pakistan’s peace efforts, and both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination at all levels.
Separately, PM Shehbaz posted on X, extending Eid ul Fitr greetings to King Salman, the royal family, and the people of Saudi Arabia. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Kingdom, emphasizing the urgent need for de-escalation and peaceful resolution.
The conversation comes amid rising tensions following US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, which led to Tehran’s retaliation targeting US bases across the Gulf, including Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had previously signed the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) in September 2025, which treats an attack on either nation as an act of aggression against both.
PM Shehbaz also offered to host peace talks between the US and Iran, stating Pakistan’s readiness to facilitate a comprehensive settlement. Former US President Donald Trump reposted this offer, noting recent productive conversations between the two nations.
Pakistan, in coordination with Turkey and Egypt, has played a key role in back-channel diplomacy, relaying messages to prevent further escalation and promote regional peace.
