Pakistan Railways has made a significant achievement, cutting over Rs. 1 billion in electricity expenses within the past eight months. This success is attributed to two main efforts: transitioning the system to solar energy and enforcing stringent measures against electricity theft.

The milestone was revealed during a meeting chaired by the Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi. He highlighted that the department’s reforms are yielding tangible results, with the savings positively impacting the financial stability of Pakistan Railways.

Among the various divisions, Lahore Division led the way with an impressive Rs. 416.6 million in savings, followed by Mughalpura with Rs. 243 million.

Other divisions, including Rawalpindi, Quetta, Karachi, Sukkur, Multan, and Peshawar, also contributed significantly by reducing costs, playing a crucial role in the overall savings.

The minister commended the efforts of all teams nationwide, urging them to continue their commitment to these reforms. He emphasized that electricity theft will not be tolerated, and the government has implemented a strict zero-tolerance policy for anyone involved, with severe action to follow.

This initiative is viewed as a major reform in the railway sector, demonstrating that with proper planning and effective implementation, substantial financial improvements can be achieved.
