Pakistan has introduced a new secure mobile phone designed specifically for government officials, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s digital security. Developed under a pilot initiative by the National Telecommunication Corporation, the device is fully built within Pakistan, with both hardware and software created by local engineering teams.

Unlike regular smartphones, this special handset uses a custom operating system and remains completely offline, which means it cannot access the internet in any form. This offline structure protects it from hacking attempts, cyberattacks, or any unauthorized remote access.

The phone works with local SIM cards, but its communication system is tightly controlled. It can only make or receive calls from other secure devices in the same network. This closed communication environment ensures that sensitive conversations remain fully protected and cannot be intercepted.

Officials say the project reflects Pakistan’s growing commitment to self-reliant technology and reducing dependence on foreign systems. Building a fully indigenous device also helps safeguard national data while boosting local technical capability.

Currently, selected government officers are testing the phone, and early feedback shows strong potential for broader use. If the trial succeeds, Pakistan may expand production and introduce additional security enhancements to support confidential communication across key institutions.
