Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a significant telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, focusing on Pakistan’s ongoing peace diplomacy amid the escalating Middle East conflict. The discussion, which lasted over an hour, revolved around regional hostilities, mediation efforts, and the urgent need for trust-building between nations.

During the call, the Prime Minister strongly condemned the Israeli attacks on Iran, particularly the recent strikes on civilian infrastructure, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Iranian people. He extended heartfelt condolences over the tragic loss of more than 1,900 lives and prayed for the recovery of the injured and displaced.

Sharif also briefed President Pezeshkian on Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach, led by himself, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir. These efforts involve engaging the United States, as well as Gulf and Islamic countries, to create a conducive environment for peace talks. Pakistan’s initiative has received strong endorsement from multiple partners, raising hopes for a collective path toward ending hostilities.

President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s supportive role and emphasized the importance of trust in facilitating meaningful dialogue. He acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive efforts and stressed that mediation must be grounded in sincerity to achieve lasting peace.

The conversation comes at a critical time, as the US-Israel war on Iran enters its second month, threatening broader regional stability. Pakistan, working closely with Turkiye and Egypt, has been instrumental in back-channel diplomacy, relaying messages between Washington and Tehran to prevent further escalation.

Looking ahead, Pakistan is preparing to host a quadrilateral meeting in Islamabad with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt. The discussions aim to de-escalate tensions and strengthen cooperation among brotherly nations. This initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive role in promoting peace and stability across the Middle East.
