Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts have recently gained global attention after successfully contributing to a US-Iran ceasefire, with officials calling it a major victory of diplomacy. Speaking in an interview, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, highlighted the country’s constructive and balanced role in easing tensions between the two nations.
According to the envoy, Pakistan remained committed to peaceful dialogue and engagement throughout the process. Weeks of behind-the-scenes efforts eventually led to a ceasefire agreement and opened the door for further negotiations. He emphasized that Pakistan has always believed in resolving conflicts through diplomacy rather than confrontation.
Sheikh also acknowledged the significant support of key global and regional partners. Countries such as Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar, and China played an important role in ensuring the success of the ceasefire. He noted that collective international efforts helped create an environment where dialogue could take place.
Highlighting China’s involvement, he stated that Beijing consistently encouraged all sides to exercise restraint and prioritize diplomatic solutions. He further explained that Pakistan’s leadership remained actively engaged throughout the process, while maintaining a level of confidentiality essential for successful negotiations.
The ambassador clarified that Pakistan acted strictly as a facilitator, allowing the concerned parties to make their own decisions. He stressed that such diplomatic initiatives require patience, trust, and discretion to achieve meaningful results.
Pakistan’s strong ties with Gulf countries were also mentioned, particularly given the presence of over 5.5 million Pakistanis living in the region. These relationships played a supportive role in ongoing consultations and coordination.
Looking ahead, Sheikh expressed optimism that continued efforts will lead to long-term peace and stability. He noted that stability in the region would not only benefit the Gulf but also have a positive impact on global politics and the economy.
