Pakistan concluded their T20 World Cup 2026 journey with a dramatic five run win over Sri Lanka in their final Super Eight clash at Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy. Despite the victory, Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi final due to an inferior net run rate, allowing New Zealand and England to progress from Group 2.
After being put in to bat, Pakistan posted a massive 212 for 8 in their 20 overs. The highlight of the innings was a sensational 176 run opening partnership between Farhan and Fakhar. Both batters delivered explosive half centuries that put Sri Lanka’s bowlers under immense pressure. Fakhar smashed 84 off 42 balls, hitting nine fours and four sixes before being dismissed by Dushmantha Chameera.
Farhan carried on the momentum and produced a brilliant century, scoring 100 off 60 deliveries decorated with nine fours and five sixes. However, Sri Lanka fought back in the final overs as Dilshan Madushanka picked up three crucial wickets, restricting Pakistan to a manageable total.
In response, Sri Lanka needed to score big to improve their net run rate but could only manage 207 for 6. Captain Dasun Shanaka led from the front with a blistering 76 not out off 31 balls, while Pavan Rathnayake added a steady 58. The duo stitched together a vital partnership, keeping hopes alive until the final over.
With 28 runs required off the last six balls, Shaheen Shah Afridi held his nerve despite conceding three sixes and sealed the narrow victory. Earlier, Abrar Ahmed impressed with three wickets, supported by Naseem Shah and Mohammad Nawaz.
Although Pakistan secured the win, they finished third in Group 2 with three points and a negative net run rate, ending their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on a bittersweet note.
