Pakistan’s maritime industry is celebrating a historic milestone as the MSC MICOL, the largest cargo ship ever to visit the country, arrived at Karachi Port on Sunday at 2:30 PM. This enormous vessel, built in 2023 and sailing under the Liberian flag, stretches an incredible 400 meters in length and has the capacity to carry 24,070 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).
The MSC MICOL docked at the South Asia Pakistan Terminal (SAPT), one of the most advanced deep-water ports in South Asia. Its arrival underscores Pakistan’s growing ability to handle large-scale global cargo operations, firmly placing Karachi Port among the key international trade hubs.
According to officials from the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), this event represents a major breakthrough for Pakistan’s shipping and logistics sector, showcasing the nation’s ability to meet global maritime standards.
Maritime experts believe this achievement will not only boost Pakistan’s global trade image but also encourage more international shipping lines to utilize its ports, thus enhancing economic growth through increased cargo activity.
The docking of MSC MICOL also highlights Pakistan’s commitment to modernizing its ports and expanding trade connectivity through public-private partnerships, marking a powerful step toward a more competitive maritime future.
