Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has addressed the growing speculation about his return to international cricket, making it clear that he has no plans to reverse his retirement.
In a recent video message, Amir stated that while he appreciates the continuous support from his fans, his decision to retire remains final. “For the past few days, I’ve been hearing that Mohammad Amir is making a comeback, but no such discussion has taken place. I have no intention of withdrawing my retirement,” he clarified.
Amir, who announced his retirement for the second time in December 2024 after the ICC T20 World Cup, stressed that Pakistan cricket must move forward and focus on nurturing new talent. “My fans say that I should come back, but Pakistan cricket also needs to progress,” he said.
The 33-year-old pacer emphasized the need to give young players opportunities to build a strong team for the future. “If the youngsters play consistently, in two or three years a powerful team will emerge. We played the Asia Cup final; now I hope Pakistan reaches and wins the World Cup final,” he added.
Amir also shared his support for reports suggesting Sarfaraz Ahmed’s potential role as Chief Selector, calling him an honest and experienced leader. He further urged the PCB to involve former players like Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir, and Younis Khan in advisory roles to strengthen Pakistan’s cricket system.
