The Kuwait Municipality has stepped up its regulatory efforts by launching a new inspection campaign targeting commercial establishments in Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate. The initiative, led by the Audit and Municipal Services Monitoring Department, aims to ensure that businesses comply with health, safety, and advertising regulations and hold all required valid licenses.
According to municipal officials, inspection teams conducted on ground visits to areas where violations had previously been recorded. The campaign focused on identifying breaches such as expired health permits, unauthorised advertisements, and the illegal use of public spaces. Authorities confirmed that regulatory action would be taken immediately against violators to maintain public order and urban standards.
Yousef Al-Ajiman, Supervisor of Shops and Markets at the governorate’s Audit Department, stated that the inspections resulted in multiple citations being issued for violations related to shop operations and advertising laws. He emphasized that this campaign marks the fourth inspection drive of its kind, with additional visits planned across all governorates in the coming weeks under a structured municipal schedule.
The Kuwait Municipality reiterated the importance of full compliance with commercial regulations and stressed that penalties will continue to be enforced without hesitation against businesses that fail to follow the law. Officials said the goal is to protect public health, preserve city aesthetics, and ensure fair business practices.
In a separate announcement, Kuwait’s Cabinet declared a two day public holiday for government institutions to celebrate the 65th National Day and the 35th Liberation Day. Combined with the weekend, this decision grants most public sector employees a four day break. The announcement followed the weekly Cabinet meeting chaired by Sheikh Ahmad Al Abdullah Al Sabah.
Government offices, ministries, and public authorities will remain closed on February 25 and 26, with official work resuming on March 1. Entities providing essential services will set their own schedules to ensure continuity.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior announced significant updates to residency procedures affecting expatriates with family ties to Kuwaiti citizens. Under the revised system, spouses and children of expatriates will now be processed under Article 22, requiring strict compliance with updated eligibility criteria.
