Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has officially announced the end of interest-based practices in the province’s government investments, marking a significant and historic shift in KP’s financial policy. Chairing a cabinet meeting in Peshawar, he introduced new priorities aimed at improving governance, transparency, and public confidence.
During the meeting, Afridi expressed gratitude to all political parties for taking part in the recent peace jirga. He assured them that the provincial government will fully implement the KP Assembly’s resolutions, emphasizing that unity is crucial for long-term stability and progress in the province.
Afridi also highlighted his commitment to ending the Action in Aid of Civil Power law, a policy that has sparked widespread debate across KP. To ensure accountability, he announced the formation of a dedicated inquiry commission to investigate the May 9 Radio Pakistan incident, promising clarity on the events and responsibility.
Key reforms were also outlined, including a complete transition to a riba-free financial system, strict enforcement of merit-based recruitment, and updates to outdated provincial laws. Afridi reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on corruption, calling it essential for sustainable development and good governance.
These policy changes reflect the KP government’s wider mission to establish a more fair, transparent, and accountable administrative structure that supports long-term growth and public trust.
