A tragic Kohat police attack has claimed the lives of at least seven individuals, including six police officers, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The deadly assault took place on Shakardara Road when terrorists opened fire on a police mobile van, leaving the nation in mourning.
According to police officials, the attackers ambushed the van in a remote area, killing three officers on the spot, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Asad Mehmood. Two civilians passing by were also caught in the crossfire and sustained injuries. As the injured were shifted to hospitals, the death toll rose to seven after three more policemen and one civilian succumbed to their wounds.
Several other injured personnel remain under treatment. After the shooting, the assailants set the police vehicle on fire, intensifying the brutality of the attack.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the incident and paid tribute to the fallen officers, praising their courage and dedication. He expressed solidarity with the families of the martyrs and assured them that the government stands firmly by their side. The minister stated that the sacrifices of these brave officers will always be remembered.
The incident comes amid rising terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan. Security forces have intensified intelligence based operations against militants linked to Fitna al Khawarij. In recent days, multiple terrorists were killed in operations in Dera Ismail Khan and Pishin, while cross border strikes targeted militant camps along the Pakistan Afghanistan border.
Tensions between Islamabad and Kabul have escalated due to repeated allegations of militant sanctuaries across the border. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to eliminating terrorism and restoring lasting peace. The Kohat police attack stands as another painful reminder of the ongoing security challenges facing the country.
