Several major roads in Karachi remained closed for the third consecutive day as authorities continued heightened security measures across the city. The restrictions were enforced following violent protests that erupted after the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which led to unrest near sensitive locations.
The most significant blockades were reported at PIDC Bridge, Mai Kolachi Road, and surrounding areas. Shipping containers were placed on PIDC Bridge, completely blocking access towards Jinnah Bridge and Mai Kolachi for general traffic. Barriers were also installed at the Mai Kolachi railway crossing, where only residents and office workers traveling from Boat Basin were allowed entry after showing valid national identity cards.
The route from MT Khan Road to PIDC Road and Mai Kolachi was sealed, with heavy deployment of police and Rangers personnel stationed at multiple checkpoints. Similarly, commuters traveling from Jinnah Bridge towards PIDC Road and Mai Kolachi faced complete roadblocks, adding to the disruption.
Due to these closures, heavy traffic congestion continued on II Chundrigar Road, which experienced significant pressure as diverted vehicles crowded the alternative route. Residents near Bilawal House and Boat Basin were advised to use alternate routes via Clifton Bridge, Metropole, and Saddar to reach their destinations.
Authorities confirmed that traffic and local police officials were present at key locations to guide commuters. Citizens were encouraged to contact the traffic police helpline 1915 for updated information regarding road conditions and diversions.
The ongoing restrictions highlight the tense security situation in the city, with law enforcement maintaining strict monitoring to prevent further unrest. Commuters are advised to plan their travel carefully and allow extra time due to continued road closures and diversions.
