Karachi residents woke up today to clear skies despite earlier forecasts of drizzle and light rain. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city is expected to remain dry throughout the day, with no chance of showers.

PMD Deputy Director Anjum Nazeer explained that the skies are currently sunny, and while partly cloudy conditions may develop later, there is no likelihood of rain in the port city today. This statement contrasts with the earlier prediction that Karachi could experience drizzle under the influence of a western weather system.

The Met Office had previously forecast partly cloudy weather for the next 24 hours, with a possibility of rain in some areas. It also reported that Karachi’s maximum temperature would hover around 32°C, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.5°C. The city’s humidity level was measured at 84%, adding to the sticky feel of the day.

Looking ahead, Anjum Nazeer noted that weather conditions may begin to change from Thursday (March 26). Outskirts of Karachi could see light to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds. A more intense spell is expected on March 28 and 29, bringing heavy showers, thunderstorms, and even hailstorms. The system, he added, has the potential to intensify further in the coming days.

The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has already issued an alert for Karachi and other parts of the province. Staff have been instructed to remain on high alert and keep all necessary machinery ready to deal with possible emergencies.

For now, Karachi remains dry and sunny, but residents should prepare for unsettled weather later this week as the rain-producing system strengthens.
