Karachi fire incident kills elderly man as firefighters battle blaze at clinic

Another tragic Karachi fire incident has claimed the life of an 80 year old man after a blaze erupted inside a clinic in Gulistan e Jauhar, highlighting growing concerns over fire safety in the city. Officials confirmed that the fire broke out on Wednesday and was later brought under control with the help of a fire tender.

According to police and fire department officials, the deceased was identified as Usman, aged 80. Initial investigations revealed that the fire started when the elderly man accidentally placed a lit cigarette on his mobile phone, triggering the blaze inside the clinic. The flames quickly spread, leaving little time for escape.

Rescue teams responded promptly after receiving the emergency call. A fire brigade vehicle was dispatched immediately, and firefighters managed to control the inferno using a fire tender. Despite the swift response, officials confirmed that one person was found dead after suffering severe burn injuries.

Authorities said the clinic was located on the ground floor of a residential building and was owned by the deceased’s son. At the time of the incident, Usman was living in the flat above the clinic, which may have delayed his ability to escape once the fire intensified. Police stated that further investigation is underway, but no foul play is suspected.

This Karachi fire incident comes amid heightened public concern following the recent Gul Plaza Shopping Mall fire, which killed at least 73 people and left several others missing. That massive blaze, which broke out earlier this month, was described as Karachi’s largest fire in more than a decade and exposed serious gaps in fire safety enforcement across commercial and residential structures.

Fire officials have once again urged citizens to exercise caution, particularly when dealing with open flames, electronic devices, and smoking indoors. Experts warn that even minor negligence can lead to fatal consequences, especially in congested urban areas where fire spreads rapidly.

The repeated fire tragedies have renewed calls for strict fire safety inspections, improved emergency response systems, and greater public awareness. As Karachi continues to witness deadly incidents, authorities face increasing pressure to ensure that safety regulations are not only implemented but actively enforced to prevent further loss of life.
