The Inspector General (IG) Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, has announced strict penalties and heavy fines for individuals caught driving without a valid license in Karachi.
Initially, authorities had considered fines as high as Rs100,000, but the Sindh government directed police not to impose such large amounts. Under the revised schedule:
Motorcyclists without a license: Rs20,000 fine
Car drivers without a license: Rs30,000 fine
Heavy vehicle drivers without a license: Rs50,000 fine
The IG revealed that nearly 300,000 people in Karachi have already obtained online driving licenses, stressing that strengthening the licensing system is crucial for effective traffic management.
E-Challan System to Launch Soon
Karachi’s traffic police are preparing to roll out an e-challan system, where fines will be issued automatically through digital evidence like photos and videos. This faceless challan system will deliver fines directly to violators’ homes via post, with details also accessible on the official mobile app.
Awareness Campaign in Karachi
To prepare citizens, the traffic police have launched the second phase of their public awareness campaign, including signboards, streamers, and other outdoor advertisements at more than 100 locations across Karachi. Educational videos and images are also being shared to spread awareness about traffic rules and road safety.
Purpose of the Initiative
Authorities emphasized that these measures are designed to enforce traffic laws in Karachi, reduce violations, and improve road safety. Citizens are strongly urged to follow regulations, obtain valid licenses, and avoid unnecessary penalties.
