Islamabad Accord plan for ceasefire

Diplomatic meeting showing Iran Pakistan and US officials discussing Islamabad Accord peace talks and ceasefire agreement

A new diplomatic breakthrough may be on the horizon as Pakistan presents a proposed peace framework, informally called the Islamabad Accord, aimed at ending escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. According to sources, both sides have received the proposal and are currently reviewing its terms.

The plan outlines a two-stage strategy, starting with an immediate ceasefire followed by a comprehensive peace agreement within 15 to 20 days. If accepted, the ceasefire would also lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global oil shipments that has been under threat during the conflict.

Sources indicate that Pakistan has taken a central role in mediation, acting as the main communication channel between the involved parties. Pakistan’s military leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir, has reportedly held continuous discussions with key figures such as US Vice President JD Vance, envoy Steve Witkoff, and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

While the proposal has generated cautious optimism, Iran has not yet committed to the terms. Iranian officials have expressed concerns about accepting a temporary ceasefire without guarantees of long term peace. Tehran continues to emphasize the need for a permanent agreement that ensures protection from future attacks.

The final phase of the plan is expected to include nuclear limitations by Iran, in exchange for sanctions relief and access to frozen assets. However, progress remains uncertain as diplomatic efforts intensify.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has maintained a neutral stance, neither confirming nor denying details of the proposal, but affirming that the peace process is ongoing.

The situation remains critical as global markets closely monitor developments. Any resolution could significantly impact energy stability and reduce tensions in a region vital to international trade.
