Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has clarified that Islamabad is acting as a neutral facilitator in the high-stakes negotiations between the United States and Iran. Speaking on a major international news platform, the envoy highlighted that while Pakistan is providing the platform for these peace talks, the ultimate responsibility for a final settlement lies with the involved parties. This diplomatic mission follows a two-week ceasefire brokered by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which successfully halted six weeks of intense regional conflict.
Ambassador Sheikh noted that a constructive spirit has defined the atmosphere in Islamabad. These sessions are part of a long-standing positive tradition of Pakistani diplomacy aimed at de-escalating Middle East tensions. The facilitator role has gained significant momentum with the backing of regional powerhouses like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Turkey. The conflict, which erupted in late February, led to a tragic loss of over 2,000 lives and severely impacted the global economy through disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
