The Iran school strike in the southern city of Minab has triggered intense international concern after reports suggested that the attack may have been caused by a targeting error during a United States military operation. According to emerging details, the strike was carried out using a Tomahawk missile during a broader campaign targeting Iranian military positions.
Initial reports indicate that the US military was conducting strikes on a nearby Iranian naval base connected to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. However, investigators believe that the target coordinates used for the missile strike were based on outdated intelligence data, which resulted in the missile hitting a nearby elementary school building instead of the intended military target.
Iranian officials claim the incident caused more than 150 deaths, many of them believed to be students and civilians. The school building reportedly stood on land that was previously part of a military installation, but the site had been separated and converted into an educational facility several years earlier. According to available information, the school was physically separated from the military base between 2013 and 2016, creating a civilian zone that should not have been targeted.
Investigators are now examining why outdated information was used during the targeting process and who was responsible for verifying the coordinates before the strike was launched. Early findings suggest that the target data may have been provided by intelligence sources without being properly updated, leading to a tragic miscalculation during the operation.
The incident has further complicated an already volatile US Iran conflict, which began with military strikes on February 28 and has since escalated across several areas in the region. The war has already caused significant casualties, regional instability, and rising global tensions.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has blamed both the United States and Israel for the attack, accusing them of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. However, Israel has denied any involvement in the strike. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States would never intentionally target a school, emphasizing that the investigation is still ongoing.
President Donald Trump initially suggested that Iran might have been responsible for the explosion, but later said he would accept the outcome of the investigation once the facts are confirmed.
As investigators continue reviewing the evidence, the Iran school strike has become one of the most controversial incidents of the current conflict, raising serious questions about military targeting procedures, intelligence verification, and civilian protection during wartime.
